Designs by imaginative artists. Beautiful materials. This is typical with popular styles from the past. Important accessories for 1920s fashion, back when beautiful bare arms demanded beautiful adornment, vintage bracelets worn in this era were generally worn in multiple collections. Later, in the 1930s, bracelets got more 3-dimensional and wider. This was during the time when the Machine Age Style was catching on. Then, in the 1940s, snake chains were all the rage with gold-tone decorating flexible spirals and basket-weave links. Retro Modern jewelry pieces from the 1940s and 1950s still inspire fashionistas in the present era.
Vintage Bracelets from the Victorian Era
During the Victorian Era, many popular bracelets were manufactured using black Berlin iron or Silesian wire which was gauze-like. Rolled gold was used to create bangles and was very common. Red coral was also used and it was thought to ward away evil spirits and even protect children from diseases. Even tightly woven bands of human hair were used to create bracelets from this time.
Tortoiseshell bangles which were inlaid with fine lines of silver and bangles carved from chunks of black jet were considered quite fashionable during Queen Victoria’s mourning period.
