Vintage Bracelets from the Victorian Era

During the Victorian Era, many popular bracelets were manufactured using black Berlin iron or Silesian wire which was gauze-like. Rolled gold was used to create bangles and was very common. Red coral was also used and it was thought to ward away evil spirits and even protect children from diseases. Even tightly woven bands of human hair were used to create bracelets from this time.

Tortoiseshell bangles which were inlaid with fine lines of silver and bangles carved from chunks of black jet were considered quite fashionable during Queen Victoria’s mourning period.
